*Cindy Conner started growing food in 1974, a venture that began her education into organic gardening and farming. This journey began with her wish to have a healthy family and later broadened to include a healthy community. She sold vegetables to local restaurants, families, and farmers markets from 1992-2001.During that time she volunteered with the garden project at Elmont School when the last of the four Conner children was still there. At Elmont she was instrumental in establishing a composting program for the cafeteria waste. In 1999 she helped start the Ashland Farmers Market, the same year she began teaching at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.
Cindy holds a B.S. degree in Home Economics (now Human Ecology) from Ohio State University, is certified by Ecology Action as a GROW BIOINTENSIVE Sustainable Mini-farming Teacher, and holds a certificate in permaculture design. Cindy has been a member of the Virginia Association for Biological Farming since 1989. In addition to teaching sustainable agriculture at JSRCC, Cindy researches how to sustainably grow a complete diet in a small space at her home near Ashland, Virginia, and has founded Homeplace Earth to help people become more aware of opportunities to live lightly in this world.
Her new video, Cover Crops and Compost Crops IN Your Garden, shows how to manage cover crops in your garden using only hand tools. More information on that can be found at www.HomeplaceEarth.com.
